This course explores how slavery affected the minds and bodies of African Americans, with a focus on Gullah Geechee culture. Using the TV series "Underground," we will look at the historical trauma of slavery and its impact on brain chemistry and mental health. We will also examine the intersection of racism and sexism across different generations, including the era of slavery, the Black Panther Party, and today. The goal is to learn from the past, understand the present, and lay the groundwork for either reforming the Black Panther Party or building a better movement for Black lives.
