Support the Geechee Sunflowa:

Help us reclaim, remember, and repair. The Geechee Sunflowa Initiative is a sacred effort to honor the untold and often erased stories of our Gullah Geechee ancestors whose lives and deaths were buried beneath silence. First project is The “Dead House,” located at Riverfront Park in North Charleston, SC, which use to be a 100+ acre rice plantation. Enslaved Black children fingerprints are still on the bricks. Today, there is no marker, no memorial—only erasure.

We’re changing that.

Through this initiative, we are planting sunflowers as sacred memory markers symbols of resilience, healing, and ancestral pride. Each sunflower is planted with intention: to cleanse the soil (phytoremediation), uplift truth, and honor those who never received a proper goodbye. We are also working toward the installation of an official educational marker at the Dead House site, so future generations know the truth of what happened on that land.

Your donation will support:

Community-led sunflower planting ceremonies

Educational signage and historical research

Honor circles and healing rituals rooted in Gullah Geechee traditions

Youth programming to pass down sacred memory work

Organizing efforts to secure public acknowledgment and land reparations

We believe memory is an act of resistance. Join us in planting the seeds of truth, healing, and justice.

Heal de soil. Heal de soul. Heal de people. Heal de planet.
